How much should I offer for a 1990 5spd tt with 75,000 miles. I checked out the car today; paint on the rear bumper is peeling, passenger window is shattered, fog lights and turn signals are missing and the door handles on both sides are sticking out a little on the bottom side. Other than that the body is in good condition and never been in an accident. The interior however is missing a bunch of stuff as the car was broken into. It is missing the radio, shift knob, front speakers, safc and space saver tire. The seller initially told me that the engine does not start, but upon asking to start he says "to be honest, the car makes a metal noise. Like 2 things hitting each other. I also drained the oil to see if there were any metal shavings, but I didn't see anything." He also told me that he will give me a replacement passenger window, turn signals, fog lights, and shift knob. What could be wrong with the engine and how much should I offer? He doesn't have an asking price, but said the prices he was offered range from $1800-$3000.
